Don't you just love days like this?
There is sarcasm in the title; you'll get it when I'm through.
So, today I wake up, I get on the computer and futz around for a couple of hours. There's nobody in the house, and I don't need to really get ready for work until two hours before my shift starts, most days. (I give myself two hours so I have plenty of cush time, especially if I need to shower.) Anyway, so. Up at ten, shower and get ready around 12:45, leave for work around 1:30. Encounter minor traffic, get to work about ten minutes early--better than I have been doing. So I go in, and I'm feeling pretty okay, except I thought I wouldn't need my long sleeves today, as I didn't really need them yesterday. I realized how much of a mistake that was when I got out of my car and needed my jacket so I wouldn't freeze to death on my way to the timeclock and breakroom. But I was pretty comfy in my workshirt, so I didn't worry about that too much for the first half of my shift.
I head up to the ridepark, check in with Ken, the manager for that shift, then go and break Eddie, which made the Hammer (Thor's Hammer, that is) my ride for the time being. There were no customers in line for it, though, so while we were waiting for Eddie to finish up, I asked Ken if I could bring a camera to work while I was working (which he said was fine, as long as I didn't photograph the customers), and once Eddie left, I went to sit at the table near the Hammer, so I could monitor if there were any customers who wanted to ride. On my way over, I see a group of young men and women, and--gasp! do my eyes decieve me?--one of them, a young woman, appears to be wearing a pentacle! So I do what I always do in that situation--I walked up to her, apologize for randomly approaching her, and say, "I LOVE your necklace," which really means "I'm pagan too! Holy crud! Let's like, talk and stuff!" I also whipped out my own pentacle and showed it off. Apparently, there were two other pagan/wiccans in her group, and all of them are just getting into the pagan/wiccan scene, so we sat and talked and got to know each other, you know, exchanging e-mails and whatnot. We confirm that each other has a myspace, then had to part ways, as one of the others in her group wanted to go miniature golfing. So we said goodbye, and I ran the Hammer for a while, until I was asked to take over on the Viking Ship. Well, while I was running the Viking Ship, it started getting dark, and when it starts getting dark, it starts getting cold. I soon found myself *really* regretting not bringing long sleeves with me to work. Thankfully, though, Lisa sent one of the closers right over (after the longest, coldest two and a half hours of my life) to send me on break.
Break was great. I wasn't really hungry, but it was nice to hide away in the break room and warm up. Oh, and Idle Hands was on TV, so I got to see half an hour of one of my favorite movies. That rocked.
I had a minor dilemma as I was coming back from break, though.... See, I hadn't brought long sleeves to wear under my workshirt, but I *did* bring my really nice, warm, comfy, black trench/raincoat. I'd thought about wearing it out to the ridepark once before, but I'd decided that it hid my shirt too much, and made me look more like a customer than an employee. However, tonight was different. Tonight I decided, "Y'know what? Screw that. If I get in trouble for wearing my coat, then too fucking bad. I'm cold, and there's no way in hell I'm freezing my ass off for another four hours." So I ran back to the break room, grabbed my coat, clipped my nametag to the front of my coat, and ran back up to the ridepark. I didn't get in trouble for it. o.o That.... that was a pleasant surprise. I ended up wearing my nice, warm coat for the rest of the night, and I also did minimal work, pretty much. I spent the last hour of my shift hanging out with some of my female co-workers; Hannah, Sandy, Kellyn, and one more who I can't remember the name of. It was great, really. Hannah is such a bouncy, perky, energetic, random little girl, I had to ask: "Did she have breakfast with her sugar this morning?" Apparently not. But I love my co-workers. The only saddening thing about tonight (aside from the cold) was that I found out that my first favorite co-worker, Veronika, quit. That really made me sad, because she was one of my first friends at Scandia, and I really had hoped to become better friends with her. Oh well. I think with a little work, I can become good friends with Sandy and Hannah, at the very least.
So, I go home, and first thing (yes, I'm a loser--shut up) I do is get on myspace, to see if Jessie (the little pagan girl I'd met in front of the Hammer) had sent me the friend request she said she would. She had, so she and I messaged back and forth a little bit--yay--and I start up some IMs on AIM. Sammy-tha tells me to check out Mykal's blog, because he seemed really pissed off. So I do, and... well... wow. I mean, I thought *my* mom was bad, with some of the crap she's been pulling with me, but Mykal's mom called him up just to inform him that he was more or less completely worthless.... when he was with friends. Considering some of the thoughts he's thrown out in his previous blogs, that is seriously depressing. So now he's moving out. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. He's leaving in a week, or two weeks at the latest (at least, that's what he said), and, well, what worries me more is that I'll fall out of touch with him, like with Crystal. She got kicked out of both her places, and has been inhabiting the extra room in the condo Mykal and his mom live in. So now I'm worried about her because I don't know how she's doing, even though she's at Mykal's, and I don't know if she'll be staying in the condo or if she'll be moving when Mykal moves. And then Sammy tells me that she had a crappy day at work, but chooses (probably for the better) to not elaborate on it.
And I'd had such a wonderful day to start....
